Race etiquette

The race staff would like to thank you in advance for considering these etiquette tips as you enjoy the events.

  • Please pay attention to pre-race instructions — both digital and verbal. What you read and hear will not only help guide you through the race course, but will also keep you safe.
  • Wear your race bib on the front of your shirt and SMILE! Photographers will be taking pictures of you throughout the race.
  • Please enter your correct start group. This will ensure that you are running with people who have a similar pace.
  • Run or walk no more than two abreast. Other athletes will want to get by you. If you are walking in a group, please start in the last start group.
  • If you want to run with a friend and they are in a different start group, the faster of the two can move back to the slower start group.
  • If you are stopping at a water station, move all the way over to the table. Grab water and move away from the table so that others may get water, too.
  • Move to the side if someone behind you says, "Excuse Me" or "Coming Through."
  • Feel free to shout words of encouragement to other athletes. You will hear words of encouragement in return.
  • When you are approaching the finish line, you may see loved ones cheering you on. Please do not encourage anyone to join you in the finish line stretch. Your support team is very important, but please communicate that the race course and finish area is for registered participants and staff only.
  • Enjoy the post-race refreshments but remember that others will want to enjoy the goodies too.
  • Celebrate! Have a great race!

Dress the part

Costume policy

All participants may dress as their favorite character, but must follow these guidelines as determined solely by runDisney.

  • Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
  • Participants 14 and older may not wear costume masks of any kind.
  • Participants 13 and younger may wear costume masks, however, the participant's eyes must be visible and the mask may not cover the participant's entire face.
  • Participants who dress like characters may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other guests except as expressly requested and authorized by runDisney.
  • Costumes may not drag on the ground.
  • Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another participant.
  • Costumes may not contain any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
  • Layered costumes, such as ball gowns, hoop skirts, those that have an infrastructure with metal components or hard edges, costumes that do not follow the natural contour of the human body, and/or costumes that could conceal prohibited items are not permitted.
  • Layered clothing, including tutus over running shorts, cold-weather gear such as sweatshirts or sweatpants, and clothing that follows the natural contour of the body are permitted unless they present a safety hazard (e.g. dragging on the ground).
  • Costumes or large props including, without limitation, items that present a safety hazard (e.g. King Triton's trident), those that surround the entire body (e.g. cardboard, plastic or other wearable costumes with hard edges, such as a house from Disney-Pixar's Up), those that are inflatable, or those that physically connect multiple participants to each other are not permitted.
  • Small, inflatable or soft-bodied, handheld props (e.g. an inflatable Toy Story ball) are permitted.
  • Tutus, transparent wings, and hats/headwear are permitted, however, they may not cover the participant's face.
  • Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
  • Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are acceptable.
  • Participants who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused entry into, and/or removed from, a runDisney event unless their costume can be modified to meet the above standards.
